Hello Norman, I'll ask you some questions for the listeners of TDS. So the first one.
Which places have you visited after our joint gig in Kiev in November? |
| Norman: |
Well, I've been a few times in Norway where I've played on some nice gigs. It was in the North of Norway.
It was very cold as you can imagine. Third I went to Moscow where I've played on a new gig with the Blackhole crew.
Also I did the Monday Bar cruise. It was cruise from Sweden to Finland. And I went to some others place
like UK, Europe, Holland.
|
| Paul: |
Which one of them you like more than others? |
| Norman: |
To be honest I've played on a first time on the Monday Bar cruise which I've told you before and that was really amazing.
It's a little bit like Amnezia where I've also played a few years ago. And It was almost the same atmosphere.
It was really great. I really enjoy that gig because you can imagine two thousands party people
on a boat and everyone were hammered, they were going crazy. It was really good to play there. I've really enjoyed that gig. |
| Paul: |
It was on a big ship between Helsinki and Stockholm? |
| Norman: |
Yes. It was from Stokholm to the place which I don't remember the name. It was really great. |
| Paul: |
Super! Because Baltic Sea is very beautiful if you're on the boat. |
| Norman: |
Yeah, but i didn't see too much of a Baltic Sea. (laughing) |
| Paul: |
Yeh! It was night and you have to play.
Where have you been on the Christmas and New Year Nights, at home or in clubs? |
| Norman: |
This Christmas I've played in Holland. New Year I've stayed at home because you know the last 4-5 years
I was every New Year night away. I've stayed this New Year with my family, it was really great to do.
Sometimes you have to. |
| Paul: |
Tell us a little bit about your plans on this year 2008,
which huge events do you plan to participate this year? |
| Norman: |
This year in a future I'm going to China. The first time I'll go to China because I've never been there.
And a lot of other gigs are coming in Holland, Europe. We're planning to do a tour in Australia again.
Also I'm going to the States.
I hope to go to play this year for the first time to South America. Because I've never played there before
and I've heard from a lot of colleagues that it's really crazy. |
| Paul: |
Well, your geography is growing... |
| Norman: |
... bigger ang bigger. I'll also going to Moscow again in June. A special gig with a singer Jes. That will be really great!
so may be I'll see you there? |
| Paul: |
I hope so. If I will be on that day in Moscow. Possibly I'll play there. So we'll see. I'll be happy to play again with you. |
| Norman: |
Yeah! It would be nice. Because Kiev was really great. |
| Paul: |
Yes! I like people there. Now something about your studio work. You're the duo and I think a lot of people
want to know how do you arrange your production process? |
| Norman: |
We start as producers at the beggining. Because I'm playing a lot around the world and we decided to spread a little bit the work.
But to be honest last year I was also busy producing my own tunes. I bring it to Mark and we try to combine in the studio together.
Sometimes Mark is making his own tunes and I come to Mark in a studio. We always want to share our ideas and then work it out
in songs which we both like. It's really important when Mark is producing a tune which I don't like so much. I don't play it
in my sets. So I have to play it in my sets otherwise it doesn't help. |
| Paul: |
I see. You produce as a single artist and together. The question is if two people work together then you need to share all the ideas
of each other. Sometimes people are different and they have own ideas... |
| Norman: |
Yeah! That's great to share ideas. Because we have an idea of Mark, an idea of me, we can combine
it and than you create something different which is nice to do.
|
| Paul: |
Do you plan to do something alone just as Norman Lenden or all the time it will be Mark Norman? |
| Norman: |
You don't know how the future goes. Maybe I do something on my own or maybe I'll have a collaboration with someone
else because I've also made
a production with Cor Fijneman and we want to give more plans for the future. It's always good to work with different people. Because
you can learn a lot from each other and you're growing to it. But to be honest in a real future we'll still work on a Mark Norman brand. |
| Paul: |
So the following question is about the collaborations.
You prefer to make collaboration tracks when you're with the second guy in the studio? |
| Norman: |
I like to be in the studio because I can see someone else and work better. |
| Paul: |
It's real collaboration. Some artists make collaborations through Internet. I think it's not collaboration process because when
you're together in studio than you can do something really together, something joint. |
| Norman: |
Exactly. Sometimes I have song in my head and I try to sing it. And Mark say "Oh, yeh! That melody". He's playing it on a keyboard and
that's really nice. |
| Paul: |
You released an album in a previous year and what are your plans in music production
for the recent future? |
| Norman: |
All is doing very well. We sign it now over more than 10 countries worlwide. Reaction so far is very good.
But almost it's really a listening album,
not a club album. This year we want to focus on a club releases. Because I think it's important that the dj's have to play
your songs. We want to focus on the club relaeses. So we've already made some fresh tunes. Yeh, we really cares about future. |
| Paul: |
What do you want to achieve in your musical career? |
| Norman: |
Well, that's a difficult question. I want to reach so many people and I want to share my music with people all around the world.
And I think it's my mission in the music. |
